Box.net Launches Mobile Developer Challenge, Compete for Prizes

This one is going out to all of the developers in the community. Box.net is hosting a Mobile Developer Challenge for Android, iOS and webOS developers. The project is simple and the rewards are exciting.

Box is kicking off its first developer challenge! We're looking for Android, iOS and webOS developers around the globe to build powerful enterprise apps and offering prizes that we hope will help turn those apps into a venture backed business. The top ten most innovative and useful apps will be eligible for prizes and the final winners will be invited on stage at our upcoming BoxWorks customer conference in September.

The prizes can be lucrative to the winning team:

1ST PLACE
$25.000 Cash, $5.000 InMobi Ad Network Spend, and a Pitch Meeting with Draper Fisher Jurvetson
2ND PLACE
$10.000 Cash, $5.000 InMobi Ad Network Spend, and a Pitch Meeting with Draper Fisher Jurvetson
TOP TEN BEST APPS
Each of the top ten apps will receive a brand new HP TouchPad.

 



The top two winners will also be flown to San Francisco to join Box CEO Aaron Levie on stage and show off their app at BoxWorks.

Challenge Rules

The following is a summary of the competition process and rules. For full details, please see the official rules.

1. Contest is open to developers worldwide for apps built on the Android, webOS and iOS platforms.
2. Submissions are due by 11:59 PM PST on September 9, 2011
3. To participate in the competition, you must register, then submit your entry on our official submission page by 11:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time on September 9, 2011. We will begin accepting submissions on August 1, 2011.
4. Only applications and services that did not have publicly available integration with Box prior to July 14, 2011 are eligible for the competition.
5. All submissions must be localized in English in order to be eligible to win a prize. Other languages are fine, but your submission and must work in English.
6. From July 14 to September 9, 2011, judging of finalists will take place. There will be two components to the judging:
Box Judging: Box developer team and CEO will judge all applications to pick the final ten winners.
Official Judging: The panel of judges will receive the top ten application videos to make the final decision on the first and second place winners.
7. When choosing finalists and prize winners, judges will consider five criteria:
Depth of integration with Box APIs: Does the application take advantage of the unique functionality offered by the Box platform? Does it leverage Box's advanced API methods like tagging, search, and version history?
Utility: Is the application useful to a businessperson? Will it help workers be more efficient from their phone or tablet?
User Experience: Is the application easy to use?
Level of Innovation: Is the application unique and innovative? Does it bring new functionality to mobile devices?
8. As part of your submission, please include a short video describing your application and demonstrating its use.
9. The Box team will evaluate all entries to determine the top applications.
10. Box will inform the top ten of their selection to the top ten category and prizes the week of September 16.
11. The first and second place finalist will be chosen among the top ten from the participant judges and will be informed the week of September 19
12. The first and second place winners will receive an invitation to attend BoxWorks on September 28 with transportation and hotel accommodations covered from Box.
13. The first place winner will receive $25.000 in cash, $5.000 in InMobi ad spend, a meeting with DFJ, a Verizon MiFi card, an HP TouchPad and funding for transportation to San Francisco and hotel accommodation for the Box conference on September 28, 2011.
14. The second place winner will receive $10.000 in cash, $5.000 in InMobi ad spend, a meeting with DFJ, a Verizon MiFi card, an HP TouchPad and funding for transportation to San Francisco and hotel accommodation for the Box conference on September 28, 2011.
15. The top ten chosen applications will receive a new HP TouchPad.
16. All entries will receive $75 worth of InMobi ad network spend.

Winners will be announced at the BoxWorks conference on September 28, 2011.
